ZS-MDC11
The ZS-MDC11 (NPN) and ZS-MDC41 (PNP) Multi-Controllers share the base ZS-LDC controller specifications but cannot connect sensor heads directly; instead they link up to 9 ZS-HLDC/LDC controllers via ZS-XCN Controller Link Units to provide arithmetic functions between controllers. The ZS-DSU11 (NPN) and ZS-DSU41 (PNP) Data Storage Units connect to a maximum of 10 controllers (1 ZS-MDC plus up to 9 ZS-HLDC/LDC), logging 32-bit-resolution data with external, data (self) and time triggers. All four units run on 21.6-26.4 VDC (0.5 A max.), provide USB 2.0 (Full Speed, MINI-B) and RS-232C (115,200 bps) interfaces plus three HIGH/PASS/LOW open-collector outputs (50 mA max.), and use an IP20 polycarbonate housing weighing approximately 280 g. They are now discontinued/obsolete Omron products.
The Omron ZS-MDC11/41 multi-controllers and ZS-DSU11/41 data-storage units are not sensor heads but DIN-rail add-on units that extend the Omron ZS-HL/ZS-L Smart Sensor laser-displacement system. The specs make their role explicit: they are intended for laser-triangulation/confocal ZS-HL displacement sensor heads, but these units cannot connect a sensor head directly. Instead, the ZS-MDC multi-controller links up to 9 ZS-HLDC/LDC controllers (via ZS-XCN Controller Link Units) to provide arithmetic functions across those measurement channels - for example computing thickness, step, warpage or differences between two or more displacement readings that no single sensor controller can produce on its own. The ZS-DSU data-storage unit attaches to a chain of up to 10 controllers (1 ZS-MDC plus up to 9 ZS-HLDC/LDC) and logs measurement data at 32-bit resolution, triggered externally, by data (self) condition, or by time. For an integrator, this means the multi-head ZS-HL system becomes a small distributed measurement network where derived quantities and data capture are handled by dedicated rail units rather than the host PLC.

A practical guide to selecting discrete sensors that trigger cameras, index parts and gate inspection on a vision station. Covers sensing principle, range, target, PNP/NPN/IO-Link outputs, response time and IP rating, plus wiring the trigger to the camera.
A practical guide to laser displacement and distance sensors: how triangulation, confocal and time-of-flight measure distance, height and profile, how resolution trades against range and target reflectivity, and when a dedicated measurement sensor beats a vision system.
A field checklist to de-risk a machine vision project before you buy hardware: define defects and tolerances, collect representative samples, prove the imaging, budget resolution and field of view, lock motion and triggers, then run a structured proof of concept against measurable acceptance criteria.
