ZS-HLDS2T
The ZS-HL sensor heads are part of Omron's Smart Sensor 2D Measurement (ZS-N) platform and use visible semiconductor laser triangulation (650 nm, 1 mW max, JIS Class 2) with a CMOS receiver to deliver sub-micron displacement measurements across six diffuse/regular-reflective head models (ZS-HLDS2VT through ZS-HLDS150) and two nozzle-gap regular-reflective heads (ZS-LD10GT/ZS-LD15GT). All heads emit a line beam, feature aluminum die-cast housings with glass front covers (IP67 with 2 m cable), and connect to ZS-HLDC-N controllers that provide NPN/PNP open-collector judgment outputs plus analog output (±10 V / 4–20 mA) via 21.6–26.4 VDC supply. Sampling cycle is selectable from 110 µs (High-speed) to 4.4 ms (High-sensitivity), and the system supports RS-232C, USB 2.0, and parallel I/O interfaces for integration with PLCs and PCs.
The ZS-HL series sensor heads use laser triangulation at 650 nm (visible red, 1 mW max, JIS Class 2) with a CMOS receiver array — a combination that delivers the signal stability and fine spatial resolution that distinguishes these from photoelectric or inductive alternatives. The model selected determines the measuring center distance: from tight-clearance nozzle-gap work at 10 mm (ZS-LD10GT) and 15 mm (ZS-LD15GT) out to long-standoff profiling at 600 ±350 mm (ZS-HLDS60) and 1,500 ±500 mm (ZS-HLDS150). Resolution scales with range as expected — the ZS-HLDS5T and nozzle-gap heads resolve to 0.25 µm, the ZS-HLDS2VT to 0.6 µm, the mid-range ZS-HLDS10 to 1 µm, and the long-range ZS-HLDS150 to 500 µm — so matching model to task keeps the system in its best operating window rather than over- or under-ranging.

A practical guide to selecting discrete sensors that trigger cameras, index parts and gate inspection on a vision station. Covers sensing principle, range, target, PNP/NPN/IO-Link outputs, response time and IP rating, plus wiring the trigger to the camera.
A practical guide to laser displacement and distance sensors: how triangulation, confocal and time-of-flight measure distance, height and profile, how resolution trades against range and target reflectivity, and when a dedicated measurement sensor beats a vision system.
A field checklist to de-risk a machine vision project before you buy hardware: define defects and tolerances, collect representative samples, prove the imaging, budget resolution and field of view, lock motion and triggers, then run a structured proof of concept against measurable acceptance criteria.
