Omron / Sentech FLV-DR6615 Direct Ring Light (66 mm)

FLV-DR6615

The Omron FLV-DR6615 is a high-density LED direct ring light in the FLV-DR series, with a 66 mm external ring diameter, 31 mm internal ring diameter and a 15-degree lighting angle for direct/area illumination of non-specular surfaces. It is offered as FLV-DR6615W (white, 5.0 W), FLV-DR6615R (red, 3.9 W) and FLV-DR6615B (blue, 5.0 W), each weighing approximately 120 g in an aluminum-alloy case with a fixed 0.8 m connection cable. The light unit is powered and controlled through an Omron FLV lighting controller (FLV-TCC, FLV-ATC or 3Z4S-LT IDGB), drawing power from the camera (12 V) or an external 24 VDC supply. An optional diffusion plate and polarization plate are available for more uniform illumination and glare control.

Technical overview

The Omron FLV-DR6615 is a high-density LED direct ring light built around a 66 mm outer-diameter aluminum-alloy ring with a 31 mm internal aperture, designed to surround a lens and pour light directly onto a part at a 15-degree lighting angle. That direct ring geometry is the defining characteristic: the FLV-DR series is intended for direct/area illumination of non-specular surfaces, delivering bright, even front light that reflects diffusely back toward the camera. It is therefore best suited to matte and textured parts where you want uniform front illumination rather than glancing or grazing effects. The 31 mm bore is sized to clear common small machine-vision lenses, and the M66 mounting thread plus a compact 17 mm height let it sit close to the optical axis without crowding the working envelope. At only 120 g it is light enough to mount on the camera body or a short bracket for tight, repeatable installs.

Wavelength is selectable by variant rather than tunable in the field. The white FLV-DR6615W (5.0 W) is the general-purpose choice for color and broadband contrast, the red FLV-DR6615R (3.9 W, approximately 635 nm) favors penetration and contrast on many printed and organic surfaces, and the blue FLV-DR6615B (5.0 W, approximately 460 nm) gives finer detail and stronger contrast on certain materials. Because the color is fixed per part number, the wavelength decision is a design-in choice you make up front against your target's reflectance, not a parameter you adjust later. An optional diffusion plate softens the otherwise direct output for more uniform illumination, and an optional polarization plate is available to suppress glare when residual specular reflection is a problem; neither is fitted by default, so the bare fixture delivers the brightest, most directional light.

This is a controller-driven light, not a self-powered unit. It ships with a fixed 0.8 m cable that terminates at an Omron FLV lighting controller (FLV-TCC, FLV-ATC, or 3Z4S-LT IDGB), which provides power and control, drawing either 12 V from the camera or an external 24 VDC supply. It supports both continuous operation and trigger/strobe mode through that controller, so it can be synchronized to camera exposure to freeze motion or run steady for static inspection. The 0 to +50 C operating range and aluminum-alloy case suit it to typical factory-floor enclosures. Plan the install as a system: the FLV-DR6615 head plus a compatible FLV controller, the right supply (camera-fed 12 V or external 24 VDC), and a trigger line if you intend to strobe in time with the camera.

Best for

  • Direct front illumination of non-specular, matte or textured surfaces for defect and surface inspection where bright, even light reflected back to the camera maximizes contrast
  • Reading printed text and codes (OCR/OCV and 1D/2D traceability marks) on flat, low-gloss labels and packaging using the white variant or a wavelength matched to the print
  • Compact camera-mounted setups where the 66 mm ring fits over a small lens through the 31 mm bore and the 120 g weight allows mounting directly on the camera or a short bracket
  • Strobed, motion-synchronized inspection on moving lines, pulsing the light in trigger mode through an FLV controller to freeze parts during packaging or surface checks
  • Color-dependent contrast tasks where choosing the red (approximately 635 nm) or blue (approximately 460 nm) variant enhances or suppresses features on electronics, automotive or food-and-beverage parts

Selection notes

  • An Omron FLV lighting controller (FLV-TCC, FLV-ATC or 3Z4S-LT IDGB) is mandatory - the head has no onboard driver and is powered and controlled entirely through the controller from either the camera 12 V rail or an external 24 VDC supply, so budget the controller and supply into the design
  • Wavelength is fixed by part number (FLV-DR6615W white, FLV-DR6615R red, FLV-DR6615B blue); you cannot change color after purchase, so match the variant to your target's reflectance before ordering and note the red variant draws 3.9 W versus 5.0 W for white and blue
  • The 15-degree lighting angle and direct ring geometry suit non-specular surfaces; on glossy or specular parts expect hot-spot glare unless you add the optional polarization plate, and add the optional diffusion plate if you need more uniform, softened illumination
  • Verify the 31 mm internal bore clears your chosen lens and that the 66 mm outer diameter and M66 mounting thread fit your bracket and working envelope; the low 17 mm profile and 120 g weight ease camera-mounted installs
  • If you need motion freezing or exposure-synchronized pulses, plan a trigger connection through the controller to use strobe mode; for static parts the same fixture runs in continuous mode, and keep the install within the 0 to +50 C operating range
