The FLV-EP0803 is a compact high-power spot light from Omron's FLV-EP08 lighting series, available in red (FLV-EP0803R), white (FLV-EP0803W) and blue (FLV-EP0803B) variants. It fits Omron TCH telecentric lenses (VS-TCH series) to provide coaxial/axial illumination of an 8 mm-diameter field, used for alignment-mark detection and high-resolution code/feature inspection. The unit operates from 24 V DC at about 0.7 W and is driven by Omron's FLV-ATC10405 analog lighting controller, connected via FLV-XC EP extension cables (or flying-leads power for the equivalent kit). The light head measures roughly 28 mm OD x 60 mm long x 10 mm high with a 6.8 mm-diameter emitting surface and a 14 mm inner bore for the lens mount.

The Omron FLV-EP0803 is not a conventional ring or bar light: it is a high-power LED spot light from the FLV-EP08 series engineered to inject coaxial (axial) illumination through the bore of a telecentric lens. Its 6.8 mm-diameter emitting surface and 14 mm inner-diameter lens bore are the defining geometry here. Light is launched along the optical axis so it travels down to the part and reflects straight back into the lens, which is exactly what you want for reading flat, specular, or low-contrast features. The trade-off of that geometry is a small field: the unit is specified for an 8 mm-diameter coaxial field via an Omron TCH telecentric lens, so this is a fine-feature instrument, not a wide-area illuminator. Treat it as the lighting half of a telecentric imaging chain rather than as a general-purpose light you can aim at a scene.
Electrically and mechanically it is built for tight, repeatable integration. It runs from 24 V DC at low power (1.6 W in the white and blue variants, 1.1 W in red) and must be driven by Omron's FLV-ATC10405 analog lighting controller for the FLV-EP series, connecting through FLV-XC EP extension cables (or flying-leads power on the equivalent kit). Because the documented light mode is continuous via that analog controller, you set and hold a brightness level rather than firing short high-intensity strobes; plan exposure and any motion accordingly. The head is compact, roughly 28 mm OD by 60 mm long by 10 mm high and about 80 g, so it tucks into the limited clearance around a telecentric optic without dominating the fixture.
Wavelength is a genuine selection lever on this part, because the same body ships in white (FLV-EP0803W), red (FLV-EP0803R) and blue (FLV-EP0803B). White is the general-purpose choice for broad contrast; red draws the least power (1.1 W) and tends to give clean, stable contrast on many printed and etched marks; blue, with its shorter wavelength, helps resolve the finest edges and small codes. Combined with coaxial delivery and a telecentric lens, the practical result is even, glare-controlled illumination of a small flat target: ideal for alignment-mark detection and high-resolution code or feature inspection where you need the mark to pop without the directional shadows and specular hot-spots that off-axis lighting would introduce.
Best for
Alignment-mark (fiducial) detection on flat parts where the light must travel back along the lens axis for even, glare-free contrast
High-resolution reading of small 2D/traceability codes and printed/etched marks within the roughly 8 mm coaxial field
Coaxial illumination paired with an Omron TCH (VS-TCH series) telecentric lens for low-distortion measurement and feature inspection
Imaging flat, specular, or mirror-like surfaces (electronics, semiconductor, automotive) where off-axis lighting would create hot-spots
Fine-feature OCR/OCV and defect inspection on small targets that demand uniform axial lighting rather than wide-area coverage
Selection notes
This is a telecentric-lens accessory: it is sized around a 14 mm inner-diameter lens bore and a 6.8 mm emitting surface, so confirm it mates with your intended Omron TCH (VS-TCH series) lens before designing it in. It is not a standalone light you can repurpose for wide fields.
A controller is mandatory. Budget and wire in the Omron FLV-ATC10405 analog lighting controller for the FLV-EP series, plus FLV-XC EP extension cables (or flying-leads power on the kit) - the light does not run on bare 24 V DC alone in the documented configuration.
Operation is continuous through the analog controller, not strobed. If your application involves fast-moving parts, plan exposure/trigger timing around steady-state brightness rather than relying on a short high-intensity flash from this unit.
Choose the wavelength variant up front: white (FLV-EP0803W) for general contrast, red (FLV-EP0803R) for the lowest power draw at 1.1 W and stable mark contrast, or blue (FLV-EP0803B) for resolving the finest small-code edges. All three share the same body and 24 V DC supply.
Validate the field size against your part. The coaxial field is specified at about 8 mm diameter, so larger marks or wider inspection areas fall outside what this spot light is intended to illuminate.

These steps take an Omron Sentech (STC) camera from the box to a stable first image and on to your own application. They apply across the GigE Vision, USB3 Vision and CoaXPress STC families; the interface only changes how you cable and power the camera.
Download and install the Sentech SDK on the host PC. The package provides StViewer, the viewing and configuration software you use to bring the camera up, and StApi, the programming SDK you integrate later. Because the cameras are GenICam/GenTL-compliant, StApi also registers a GenTL producer, so any GenICam-compliant third-party vision software can discover and drive the camera as an alternative front end.
2. Cable, power and connect the camera
Connect according to the interface. GigE Vision: link to a Gigabit NIC (use PoE or the separate power input) and put the camera and host on the same subnet; for USB3 Vision use a USB 3.x port and a certified cable; for CoaXPress (STC) connect to a CoaXPress frame grabber, which also supplies Power-over-Coax. Then open StViewer and let it enumerate the camera. If a GigE camera does not appear, check the IP configuration and firewall, and on USB3 confirm the host bandwidth and driver.
3. Configure exposure, gain and white balance
Open the device in StViewer and start a live stream. Set exposure and gain for a well-exposed, low-noise image: raise exposure first and only add gain when more light or a faster shutter is not an option, keeping exposure short enough to freeze motion on global-shutter models. On colour cameras, run white balance under your actual production lighting. Adjust the lens aperture and focus on a representative target before tuning anything else.
4. Set the trigger and grab a first image
Start in free-run (continuous) acquisition to confirm a clean, stable image. For inline inspection switch to hardware or software triggering: select the trigger source, set the active edge and any delay, and wire the strobe or illumination to the camera's I/O so lighting fires with each exposure. Acquire and save a frame in StViewer; this saved image is your reference for the SDK stage and for downstream inspection.
5. Move to the StApi SDK (or any GenICam software)
Once the image is stable, reproduce the same settings in code. Use StApi to open the device, apply the GenICam features you validated in StViewer (exposure, gain, trigger, pixel format) and grab frames into your application via the bundled C++, C, C#/.NET or Python interfaces; the included samples are the fastest starting point. Prefer a different stack? The same GenICam/GenTL camera works with third-party vision libraries. With a reliable feed, you can route it into a deep-learning inspection such as Rosepetal for AI-based defect detection.
