DCM Sistemes DOL0100A Linear Dome Light

DOL0100A

The DOL0100A is a linear dome from DCM Sistemes' DOL series, designed for line-scan/linear camera inspection with two 100x35 mm active diffuse emission surfaces whose two halves are controlled independently. It runs on 24 VDC (+/-8%) with a maximum instantaneous consumption of 15 W in the standard Type C continuous variants and integrates DCM's iBlueDrive LED control technology (built-in). Standard wavelengths are 470 nm blue, 525 nm green, 630 nm red, 850 nm IR and W00 white, with a recommended working distance below 20 mm. It is housed in black anodized aluminium (104x103x38 mm, 350 g), rated IP40, and connects via two 3-pin aerial male connectors (150 mm leads, PIN1 +24V / PIN2 0V / PIN3 control).

Technical overview

The DOL0100A is a linear (diffuse) dome from DCM Sistemes' DOL series, built specifically to feed a line-scan (linear) camera rather than an area-scan one. Its geometry is the defining choice: two active diffuse emission surfaces of 100 x 35 mm each form an illumination band that runs along the scan line, so the dome concentrates uniform, multi-angle light exactly where a linear sensor reads one row at a time. Because the emission is diffuse dome light, illumination arrives at the part from many angles simultaneously, which suppresses hard shadows and specular hotspots and renders shiny, curved or textured surfaces evenly. The two halves are driven independently, letting an installer balance the two sides of the scan line or favour one side to bring out directional surface relief without giving up the dome's shadow-free character.

Spec-wise this is a short-working-distance fixture: the recommended working distance is below 20 mm, so the dome sits close over the moving web or part and the inspection geometry must be designed around that tight gap. It runs on 24 VDC (+/-8%) and draws up to 15 W maximum instantaneous in the standard Type C continuous variants, with DCM's iBlueDrive LED control technology built in, so no separate external controller box is required. Drive and dimming are handled through PIN3 of each 3-pin aerial male connector (PIN1 +24V, PIN2 0V, PIN3 control), with 150 mm leads, and there are two such connectors to match the two independently controlled halves. Note that the listed Type C variant is continuous; the datasheet calls out strobe/overdrive operation as a separate Type i option, so a buyer who needs pulsed light synchronised to a fast line rate should specify accordingly rather than assume this continuous unit can be overdriven.

Wavelength is selectable at order time across red 630 nm (the default here), white W00, blue 470 nm, green 525 nm and IR 850 nm, which lets the dome be matched to the contrast problem: a colour close to or complementary to a feature changes how marks, print and material variation appear to the camera, and 850 nm IR shifts inspection out of the visible band for materials that respond better in near-infrared. Mechanically the unit is compact and robust for inline mounting: black anodized aluminium housing, 104 x 103 x 38 mm, 350 g, operating 0 to 40 C. The IP40 rating means it is protected against solid objects but not against water or washdown, so it is suited to dry electronics, print and packaging lines rather than wet or aggressively cleaned environments.

Best for

  • Line-scan/linear-camera surface inspection of continuously moving web or product, where the diffuse band aligns with the scan line for shadow-free imaging
  • Inspection of shiny, curved or specular surfaces (metal, films, coated parts) where dome diffusion suppresses hotspots and hard shadows
  • Print and packaging quality control, including OCR/OCV verification of codes and text on moving substrates
  • AI-based defect inspection on electronics and metal surfaces that needs uniform, repeatable illumination across the scan line
  • Applications needing per-side light balancing along the scan line, using the two independently controlled 100 x 35 mm halves to tune directional emphasis

Selection notes

  • Confirm the very short working distance: performance is specified for under 20 mm, so the dome must mount close over the part and the mechanical design has to clear the moving product within that gap.
  • This listed Type C unit is continuous, not strobed. For high line-rate imaging that needs pulsed/overdriven light synchronised to the camera, specify the Type i strobe/overdrive variant instead.
  • Select the wavelength to suit the contrast task at order time: red 630 nm default, plus white W00, blue 470 nm, green 525 nm and IR 850 nm. Wavelength choice is fixed per unit, so match it to the material and feature before ordering.
  • Plan the wiring and control for two halves: there are two 3-pin aerial male connectors with 150 mm leads, on 24 VDC (+/-8%), with control on PIN3 (PIN1 +24V, PIN2 0V). Budget two control channels if you want to drive the halves independently. No external controller is needed thanks to built-in iBlueDrive.
  • Check environment fit: IP40 protects against solids only, not liquids, and operating range is 0 to 40 C, so it suits dry print/packaging/electronics lines rather than washdown or high-temperature settings. Account for the 15 W max instantaneous draw and the 350 g, 104 x 103 x 38 mm footprint in the fixture.
