DCM Sistemes DOL0250A Linear Dome Light

DOL0250A

The DOL0250A is a continuous-mode linear dome light with two 250 x 35 mm active illuminated surfaces and external dimensions of 254 x 103 x 38 mm, powered at 24 VDC ±8%. Its two halves are independently controllable, giving fine adjustment of lighting parameters for line-scan applications. It is offered in Blue (470 nm), Green (525 nm), Red (630 nm), IR (850 nm) and White (W00), with maximum instantaneous consumption ranging from 875 mA (Red) to 1208 mA (Blue/Green/White) per side; additional 455 nm, 730 nm and 940 nm wavelengths plus multispectral versions are available on request. Each half terminates in a 3-pole aerial connector with a 150 mm cable and is driven externally via DCM's VCC-series controller (not included). Like the rest of the DOL series it uses a black anodized aluminium housing rated IP40.

Technical overview

The DOL0250A is a linear dome light, a geometry purpose-built for line-scan imaging rather than the conventional circular dome used with area-scan cameras. Instead of one ring, it presents two active illuminated surfaces of 250 x 35 mm each inside a 254 x 103 x 38 mm black anodized aluminium housing. The diffuse dome construction bounces light off the inner surface before it reaches the part, so the emission is uniform and shadow-free along the full length of the scanning line. That diffuse character is the whole point of the fixture: it suppresses the directional highlights and specular hot-spots that wreck imaging of glossy, curved, textured or wrinkled surfaces, which is exactly why DCM ties it to surface inspection, defect-inspection AI and printed-code reading. With two opposing 250 mm illuminated surfaces, the line is evenly lit from edge to edge across a 250 mm field width.

Electrically the fixture runs at 24 VDC plus/minus 8 percent in continuous mode, and the LED engine itself is continuous (not strobed). Each half draws roughly 875 mA on the Red 630 nm version up to 1208 mA on the higher-current colours (Blue, Green and White), which works out to about 21 W on Red and up to about 29 W per side at the top of the range. The standout design feature is that the two halves are independently controllable: each side has its own 3-pole aerial connector on a 150 mm cable and is fed from its own channel of DCM's external VCC-series controller (which is not included and must be ordered separately). That dual-channel arrangement lets an installer bias the two illuminated surfaces differently, balancing intensity side-to-side for fine adjustment of the lighting along the scan line. There is no internal driver, so all dimming, current setting and any line-synchronised brightness adjustment happens in the VCC controller.

Wavelength is the other lever this fixture gives you. The catalogued part is Red 630 nm, but the same body is offered in Blue 470 nm, Green 525 nm, IR 850 nm and a White (W00) option, with 455 nm, 730 nm and 940 nm plus multispectral variants available on request. Picking the wavelength is how you generate or suppress contrast on a given material: monochromatic light lets you exploit the way a colour either absorbs or reflects a specific band, while a longer waveband such as IR interacts differently with certain printed inks and surface colours. The housing carries an IP40 rating and an operating range of 0 to 40 C, so this is a clean, dry, indoor production-line fixture rather than a washdown one; the working distance guidance for the series is short, under about 20 mm, consistent with how a diffuse dome has to sit close over the scan line to fill it with bounced light.

Best for

  • Line-scan surface inspection of glossy, curved or textured webs where directional light would create specular hot-spots and the diffuse dome delivers shadow-free, uniform illumination across the full 250 mm scanning line
  • Continuous-web defect detection (scratches, dents, contamination, finish flaws) feeding AI defect-inspection systems on printing, metal and electronics lines
  • Reading and verifying printed traceability codes and labels on packaging and print runs, where even diffuse light improves legibility on reflective or wrinkled material
  • Print-quality and packaging-print inspection at high web speeds, using the independently controllable halves to balance illumination edge-to-edge across the line
  • Material-contrast tasks that benefit from a specific waveband, using the Red 630 nm, Blue 470 nm, Green 525 nm, IR 850 nm or White (W00) options to maximise feature contrast on a given substrate

Selection notes

  • The VCC-series controller is required and is not included. Budget for an external DCM driver, and note that each of the two halves needs its own channel via its own 3-pole aerial connector and 150 mm cable to use the independent-control feature.
  • This is a line-scan dome, not an area-scan ring dome. Its two 250 x 35 mm surfaces and short series working distance (under about 20 mm) mean it is sized to overhang a scan line; confirm your line-scan field width sits within the 250 mm illuminated length and that you can mount the 254 x 103 x 38 mm body close to the part.
  • It operates in continuous mode with a continuous LED engine, so it is matched to line-scan cameras running continuous exposure rather than pulsed/strobed area-scan triggering. Plan brightness and any line-rate intensity adjustment through the VCC controller, since there is no on-board driver.
  • Choose the wavelength to suit the material before ordering: Red 630 nm is the catalogued part, but Blue 470 nm, Green 525 nm, IR 850 nm and White W00 are offered, with 455/730/940 nm and multispectral on request. The waveband is fixed once selected, so match it to the contrast you need.
  • Confirm the environment fits the IP40 rating and 0 to 40 C operating range. This is an indoor, dry, non-washdown fixture in a black anodized aluminium housing; it is not specified for wet, dusty or high-temperature enclosures.
