DCM Sistemes PLC0615A Compact Linear Light Projector

PLC0615A

The PLC0615A is a compact linear (bar) light projector featuring 6 LEDs arranged in a line, operating in continuous mode with a 24VDC ±8% supply. It supports darkfield and direct illumination techniques and is supplied without an external driver. The light is available in six standard wavelengths (400nm UV, 470nm Blue, 525nm Green, 630nm Red, 850nm IR, White) and optionally in 455nm, 730nm, and 940nm on request. It connects via a 3-pin chassis connector and requires a separately purchased VCC series power cable. The PLC0615A is listed as a previous-generation product within the DCM Sistemes PLC series.

Technical overview

The PLC0615A is a compact linear bar light projector built around a row of 6 LEDs arranged along a 165 mm length. Operating in continuous mode from a standard 24 VDC (±8%) industrial supply, it requires no external driver or strobe controller — the 24 V rail alone is sufficient to bring the light on. This makes integration straightforward on any PLC or vision-controller output that can source the required voltage, and eliminates a line-item from the bill of materials on cost-sensitive cells. The body measures 165 × 48 × 40 mm, a profile slender enough to fit inside tight guarding or between conveyor rails, and the 3-pin chassis connector accepts DCM Sistemes VCC series power cables (ordered separately), keeping field replacement clean and toolless.

Wavelength selection is the primary configuration decision at ordering time. The six standard options — 400 nm UV, 470 nm Blue, 525 nm Green, 630 nm Red, 850 nm IR, and broadband White — cover the full range of common monochrome and color camera sensitivities. UV at 400 nm fluoresces adhesives, coatings, and surface contamination that are invisible under visible light, making it valuable for pharmaceutical seal inspection and electronics flux detection. The 525 nm Green variant maximises contrast on red or orange substrates, making it well suited to cameras whose spectral sensitivity peaks in the green band. Red at 630 nm cuts through ambient factory lighting and is the workhorse choice for OCR, barcode reading, and general surface inspection on light-toned parts. IR at 850 nm penetrates thin packaging films and dark plastics, revealing contents or subsurface structure without saturating typical silicon sensors. Three further wavelengths — 455 nm, 730 nm, and 940 nm — are available on request, providing near-UV and deep-NIR options for specialised spectral separation tasks.

The light supports both darkfield and direct (brightfield) illumination geometries, which determines how it is mounted relative to the camera and part. In direct configuration, the bar is placed on-axis or at a shallow angle to flood the inspection zone uniformly — the standard approach for reading codes, measuring edges, or checking fill levels on packaging lines. In darkfield configuration the bar is angled low to the part surface so that only surface relief, scratches, or raised features scatter light toward the camera while the flat background stays dark; this geometry is highly effective for detecting fine scratches on machined metal, embossed markings, or particulate contamination on flat substrates. The specified minimum working distance is 50 mm, which gives adequate clearance for most conveyor and fixture arrangements while keeping the 165 mm bar length usable across the full field without hot-spots at the extremes.

Best for

  • Surface scratch and defect detection on flat metallic or plastic parts using darkfield geometry, where the low-angle bar light reveals relief features invisible under direct illumination.
  • Barcode, 1D/2D code, and OCR reading tasks on packaging or labels, using the 630 nm Red variant to suppress ambient light and maximise contrast on dark print against light substrates.
  • Pharmaceutical blister-pack and label inspection, where UV (400 nm) excites fluorescent inks or coatings to verify presence and placement of seals, tamper evidence, or dosage markings.
  • Electronics PCB inspection — flux residue detection under UV, solder joint inspection under green or blue, and component orientation checks — benefiting from the compact 48 × 40 mm cross-section that fits inside dense fixture assemblies.
  • Packaging line presence/completeness checks and dimensional measurement of elongated parts such as extruded profiles or connector housings, where a single 165 mm bar provides even illumination across the full part length without stitching multiple lights.

Selection notes

  • Wavelength must be specified at order time and cannot be changed in the field — confirm the camera sensor's spectral response curve and any ambient light rejection requirements before selecting UV, visible, or IR. Monochrome cameras are generally preferred to maximise sensitivity at the chosen wavelength.
  • The PLC0615A operates in continuous mode only; there is no strobe input or trigger line. If exposure times shorter than the camera's minimum or very high conveyor speeds demand pulsed operation to freeze motion, a lighting unit with strobe capability will be required instead.
  • No external driver is included or needed, but a VCC series power cable must be ordered separately. Verify cable length and connector orientation against the enclosure layout before finalising the bill of materials, as the 3-pin chassis connector is non-standard.
  • This is a previous-generation product within the DCM Sistemes PLC series. For new cell designs with a long service horizon, confirm current-generation availability and spare-parts lead times with DCM Sistemes or the local distributor to avoid obsolescence risk mid-production.
  • Working distance is specified as greater than 50 mm. For applications requiring illumination at shorter distances — common in compact inline fixtures — evaluate whether the 165 mm bar length produces usable uniformity at the actual standoff, or whether a shorter bar or ring light geometry would be more appropriate.
