DCM Sistemes PLC3296D Compact Linear Light Projector

PLC3296D

The DCM Sistemes PLC3296D is a member of the PLC series of compact linear (bar) light projectors, measuring 962 x 39 x 31 mm with 32 LEDs and a recommended working distance greater than 50 mm. It is powered from 24 VDC (+/-8%) via a 3-pole aerial connector and is available with a built-in iBlueDrive overdrive/strobe driver as well as a continuous-drive variant, with no external driver required. It can be ordered in seven standard wavelengths (365 nm UV-, 400 nm UV, 470 nm blue, 525 nm green, 630 nm red, 850 nm IR and W00 white, plus 455/730/940 nm on request) and four emission/focus modifiers (narrow 12 degrees, medium 35 degrees, wide 70 degrees and diffuse). The aluminium housing carries an IP67 rating with the /67 modifier and operates from 0 to 40 degrees C.

Technical overview

The PLC3296D is a compact linear bar light projector built around a row of 32 high-intensity LEDs in a 962 x 39 x 31 mm anodized aluminium housing. The salient geometric fact for an installer is the form factor: an approximately 962 mm illuminated line that is only 39 mm wide. That long, narrow emission profile is what makes it a natural partner for line-scan cameras, where a single scanned line of the object must be lit evenly across a wide field, and for dark-field and grazing-incidence setups on large or elongated parts. Because it is a bar rather than a ring or dome, it delivers directional light from one side, which is exactly what you want to make surface texture, scratches, embossing and edges throw shadows and stand out against a dark background.

The optics are configurable rather than fixed, and the choice matters more than the raw output. The emission/focus modifier sets the beam: narrow 12 degrees (/AN) for a tight, intense line at longer reach or for true dark-field raking; medium 35 degrees (/AM, the default) as a general-purpose balance; wide 70 degrees (/AW) to flood a broader strip at short distance; and a diffuse modifier (/AD) when you need to soften specular hot-spots on shiny metal or glossy print. The recommended working distance is greater than 50 mm, so this is a close-to-medium standoff light, not a long-throw projector. Wavelength is equally a design decision: it ships in seven standard options spanning 365 nm UV- and 400 nm UV through 470 nm blue, 525 nm green, 630 nm red, 850 nm IR and W00 white (with 455/730/940 nm on request), letting you match the spectrum to contrast on the target rather than accepting whatever a single color gives you.

Electrically, the unit is designed to be self-sufficient and pulse-capable. It runs from 24 VDC (+/-8%) through a 3-pole aerial connector (with a short 150 mm lead and the VCC-series power cable ordered separately), and it requires no external driver: the iBlueDrive overdrive/strobe driver is built in, with a continuous-drive (C) variant offered for steady illumination. In continuous mode the 630 nm version draws roughly 47 W (about 1975 mA at 24 VDC), while iBlueDrive can pulse the LEDs far harder, up to roughly 8020 mA peak, to freeze fast-moving product without motion blur when synchronized to the camera trigger. The /67 modifier gives an IP67-rated sealed housing, and the rated operating range is 0 to 40 degrees C, so it is suited to washdown-adjacent and dusty production lines but should be kept within that thermal window.

Best for

  • Line-scan inspection of continuous webs and elongated parts, where the approximately 962 mm illuminated line matches the scanned sensor line across a wide field
  • Dark-field surface inspection of metal, glass and printed material using the narrow 12-degree beam to rake light across the surface and reveal scratches, dents and embossing
  • High-speed, blur-free imaging on moving lines using the built-in iBlueDrive overdrive/strobe driver synchronized to the camera trigger (peak current up to approx. 8020 mA)
  • Defect and AI surface inspection where directional, high-intensity bar lighting maximizes contrast on texture and edges
  • Wavelength-specific contrast tasks (UV fluorescence, IR penetration, color-channel separation) by selecting the matching wavelength from 365 nm UV- through 850 nm IR and white

Selection notes

  • Pick the emission modifier deliberately: narrow /AN (12 deg) for intense dark-field raking and longer reach, default medium /AM (35 deg) for general work, wide /AW (70 deg) to flood a short-distance strip, and diffuse /AD to tame specular glare on shiny or glossy surfaces
  • Choose the drive variant up front: the iBlueDrive (i) overdrive/strobe version for pulsed high-speed capture versus the continuous-drive (C) version for steady illumination, since the driver is built in and not field-swapped
  • Budget the power and supply: continuous 630 nm draws ~47 W (~1975 mA at 24 VDC) while iBlueDrive peaks up to ~8020 mA, so size the 24 VDC (+/-8%) supply and wiring for the pulsed current, not just the average
  • Plan the working distance and mechanical fit: this is a > 50 mm working-distance bar at 962 x 39 x 31 mm, so allow standoff and mounting space for a near-meter-long fixture along the inspection line
  • Order connectivity and sealing separately: the 3-pole aerial connector uses a VCC-series power cable that is not included (150 mm lead), and IP67 protection requires the /67 modifier; specify the wavelength to suit your target contrast
