Basler Standard Light Bar-10x165-x

Standard Light Bar-10x165-x

The Basler Standard Light Bar-10x165-x is a direct, narrow-design LED bar light with a 10 x 165 mm luminous surface, available in four wavelengths: White (5000 K), Red (625 nm), Blue (465 nm) and Infrared (850 nm). It runs from 24 VDC (+/-5 %) at about 5 W / 250 mA and features an integrated two-mode LED controller for continuous (voltage-controlled) or strobed/triggered (current-controlled) operation, and is also compatible with the Basler SLP Strobe Controller. The housing is black anodized aluminium with a PMMA light cover, weighs 120 g, and is offered in IP54 (standard) and IP67 (selected order numbers) variants over a 10-30 C operating range. Recommended working distance is 10-200 mm via an M8 4-pin connector.

Technical overview

The Basler Standard Light Bar-10x165-x is a direct LED bar light whose defining feature is its narrow, elongated geometry: a 10 x 165 mm light-emitting surface packed into an 18 x 175 x 20 mm black anodized aluminium housing weighing just 120 g. That long, thin emitting strip is the whole point. Mounted parallel to a moving web or conveyor it lays down a uniform line of light across the field, and angled low against a surface it produces grazing, oblique illumination that throws shadows from scratches, embossing and edges. Because it uses direct illumination through a PMMA light cover rather than a diffuser, the bar delivers concentrated intensity at the recommended 10-200 mm working distance, which suits bright-field reflectance imaging and dark-field setups where the bar sits to the side so that only defects scatter light back into the camera.

The illumination engine is offered in four wavelengths, and that choice carries most of the application weight. White at 5000 K is the general-purpose, color-faithful option; Red at 625 nm and Blue at 465 nm give different contrast behaviours on colored and printed features; and IR at 850 nm illuminates outside the visible band for materials where infrared response improves contrast. Pairing the wavelength to the target, and to a matching bandpass filter on the lens, is the single biggest lever on image contrast with this bar. Each wavelength is a distinct order variant, so the choice is fixed at purchase. The unit runs from a single 24 VDC (+/-5 %) supply at roughly 5 W / 250 mA over an M8 male 4-pin connector, so it integrates with standard industrial wiring without a separate power brick.

Control flexibility comes from an integrated two-mode LED controller built into the light. In continuous mode it is voltage-controlled for steady illumination during free-running or slow inspection; in strobe/triggered mode it is current-controlled, letting you pulse the bar in sync with a camera trigger to freeze motion on fast lines and to drive higher instantaneous output. For more demanding strobe timing the bar is also compatible with the separate Basler SLP Strobe Controller. Environmentally it is rated IP54 as standard with IP67 available on selected order numbers, suitable for protected machine enclosures and, in the sealed variant, harsher positions. The narrow 10-30 C operating window (extendable toward 45 C only with added heat dissipation) is the main caveat: this is a light designed for controlled, ventilated installations rather than hot, unmanaged cabinets.

Best for

  • Dark-field surface inspection on flat parts: angling the narrow bar low across the surface so only scratches, dents, embossing and edge defects scatter light back to the camera
  • Line-scan and web inspection where the 165 mm emitting length is mounted across a moving conveyor or web to evenly illuminate a continuous strip
  • Strobed, motion-freezing capture on fast lines using the current-controlled triggered mode synced to the camera, optionally via the Basler SLP Strobe Controller
  • Wavelength-tuned contrast tasks: choosing White (5000 K), Red (625 nm), Blue (465 nm) or IR (850 nm) to match the target features and substrate
  • Reading printed marks and 1D/2D codes (OCR/OCV and traceability) where grazing or oblique bar light sharpens character and code-element edges on labels and substrates

Selection notes

  • Order the wavelength to match the task, not as an afterthought: White (5000 K), Red (625 nm), Blue (465 nm) and IR (850 nm) are distinct order variants, and switching later means a new light. Plan a matching lens bandpass filter to lock in the contrast gain.
  • Confirm the working distance budget early: the bar is specified for 10-200 mm, so dark-field grazing angles and bright-field standoff must both land inside that window for usable intensity and uniformity.
  • Choose the IP rating up front. IP54 is the standard build for protected enclosures; IP67 is only available on selected order numbers, so harsher or wetter environments require specifying the correct part number.
  • Verify thermal headroom. The 10-30 C operating range (up to 45 C only with added heat dissipation) means the light needs a ventilated mount; continuous full-output operation in a hot cabinet is outside spec, which is one reason to favor the strobed, current-controlled mode on demanding lines.
  • Plan power and wiring around a single 24 VDC (+/-5 %) rail at about 5 W / 250 mA through the M8 male 4-pin connector, and decide between the integrated two-mode controller and the external Basler SLP Strobe Controller based on how tight your trigger timing must be.
