Basler Standard Light Bar-45x100_Power-x (W/B/R/IR)
Standard Light Bar-45x100_Power-x
The Basler Standard Light Bar-45x100_Power-x is a high-power LED bar light delivering strong illumination over a 45 x 100 mm area at recommended working distances of 100-700 mm. It ships in four wavelength variants: White (5000 K, 1720 lm), Blue (465 nm, 4660 mW), Red (625 nm, 3070 mW) and Infrared (850 nm, 2860 mW), all in a black anodized aluminum housing with a PMMA light cover. It runs on 24 VDC +/-10 % (about 11 W) with an integrated LED controller offering continuous and strobe modes (minimum flash time 100 us), and connects via a 4-pin M8 socket. Standard rating is IP54 with IP67 part numbers available.

The Basler Standard Light Bar-45x100_Power-x is a high-power bar (linear) light that floods a 45 x 100 mm rectangular field, making it the right shape for illuminating elongated parts, web sections, or larger objects that an unevenly lit spot or ring would leave patchy. With a recommended working distance of 100-700 mm, it is a flexible mid-to-long-range illuminator: at the short end you get intense, concentrated light for fine surface and code reading, while at the longer end you can keep the fixture clear of moving tooling and grippers and still put usable light on the target. The wide emission angle spreads that energy across the bar's length rather than concentrating it on a single point, so a single unit covers a strip of the scene and two bars angled toward each other create the directional, grazing geometry that exposes scratches, dents, embossing, and edge defects.
The product ships in four wavelength variants from one part family, and the choice directly changes what the camera sees. White (5000 K, 1720 lm) is the general-purpose option for color cameras and human-eye-comparable inspection. Blue (465 nm) is the shortest wavelength here and gives the highest contrast on fine surface texture and fluorescent or whitening targets. Red (625 nm) is efficient, penetrates well, and pairs cleanly with a matching red bandpass filter to suppress ambient light. Infrared (850 nm) is invisible to operators and is the choice when you need to read through certain inks, suppress color-dependent reflections, or run lighting that does not disturb people on the line; it requires a monochrome (NIR-sensitive) camera since color sensors lose IR response behind their filters. Because the variants share housing, mounting, and electrical interface, you can prototype the geometry once and swap the wavelength without redesigning the fixture mount.
Electrically and mechanically the bar is built to drop into a 24 VDC machine with minimal extra hardware. It runs on 24 VDC +/-10 % at roughly 11 W through a 4-pin M8 male connector, and the integrated LED controller provides both continuous and strobe (overdrive) modes with a minimum flash time of 100 us - so you can freeze fast-moving parts by synchronizing a short, bright pulse to the camera trigger without adding an external strobe box, though an optional Basler SLP Strobe Controller is available if you want centralized timing. The body is black anodized aluminum with a PMMA light cover, measures 110 x 54 x 23 mm, weighs 250 g, and carries a standard IP54 rating with IP67 part numbers available for wash-down or dusty environments. Note the operating window is 10-30 C (up to 45 C with adequate heat dissipation), which matters for enclosed cabinets and overdriven strobe duty.
Best for
Surface and defect inspection on elongated or larger parts, where two bars create grazing-angle lighting to reveal scratches, dents, and embossing across a 45 x 100 mm field
High-speed inline inspection using the integrated strobe mode (min 100 us flash) synced to the camera trigger to freeze moving product without motion blur
Reading printed codes, OCR/OCV text, and date/lot markings on packaging, with the red variant plus a matching bandpass filter to suppress ambient light
Wash-down or dusty stations (food, beverage, metalworking) by specifying the available IP67 part numbers instead of the standard IP54 rating
IR-based inspection (850 nm variant) for operator-friendly, invisible illumination or for imaging through certain inks, paired with an NIR-sensitive monochrome camera
Selection notes
Match the wavelength variant to the task: White (5000 K) for color/general work, Blue (465 nm) for fine surface contrast, Red (625 nm) for efficiency and filter-based ambient rejection, IR (850 nm) for invisible lighting and ink penetration - the IR variant needs a monochrome NIR-capable camera.
Plan the geometry around the 100-700 mm working distance and wide bar emission; for defect inspection mount two bars at a low, grazing angle rather than head-on to maximize shadow contrast on texture and edges.
The integrated LED controller covers continuous and strobe modes, so no external controller is mandatory; choose the optional Basler SLP Strobe Controller only if you need centralized, multi-light strobe timing.
Budget the electrical interface up front: 24 VDC +/-10 % at about 11 W over a 4-pin M8 male connector, and route the trigger line if you intend to use the 100 us minimum strobe synchronized to image acquisition.
Respect the thermal limits - rated for 10-30 C operation (45 C max with heat dissipation). In tight enclosures or under heavy strobe overdrive, ensure the 250 g aluminum housing can shed heat, and select IP54 versus the available IP67 versions based on the station's exposure to dust and liquids.

Applications this camera is commonly selected for. Open one to see the full recommended hardware and approach.
Get a first image quickly with the pylon Viewer, then move into the pylon SDK for your application. These cameras are GenICam/GenTL-compliant, so any compliant vision software can drive them as well.
Download and install the pylon Camera Software Suite for your OS from Basler. This provides the pylon Viewer, the GenTL transport-layer producers and the pylon SDK (C/C++/.NET/Python). On Windows the installer adds the needed drivers; on Linux follow the included setup notes for USB and network permissions.
2. Connect the camera and check the link
Cable the camera to its matching interface: GigE Vision to a GigE port (use a quality cable and, ideally, a dedicated NIC with jumbo frames enabled), USB3 Vision to a USB 3.x port with the supplied cable, or CoaXPress to the frame grabber. Provide power where required (PoE, USB bus power, or PoCXP). Open the pylon Viewer and confirm the camera appears in the device list; for GigE, make sure the camera and NIC are on the same subnet.
3. Grab a first image and set exposure, gain and pixel format
Select the camera in the pylon Viewer and start a continuous grab. Adjust exposure time and gain until the image is well exposed (avoid clipped highlights), set the pixel format (e.g. Mono8 or a Bayer/RGB format), and focus the lens. Use a test pattern if the lens or scene is not ready yet.
4. Configure triggering and acquisition
Decide between free-run and triggered acquisition. For synchronized capture, set the trigger source (software or a hardware line on the I/O connector), trigger mode and any debounce or exposure mode, then verify timing. Note the parameter names you change in the Viewer feature tree, as you will reuse them in code.
5. Move to the SDK or a GenICam-compliant library
Recreate your settings in code with the pylon SDK (C, C++, .NET or Python) to open the device, apply the same features and pull frames into your pipeline; pylon vTools and pylon AI can add processing blocks. Because the cameras are GenICam/GenTL standard, third-party vision libraries work too. Once the image stream is stable, you can route frames to a deep-learning inspection such as Rosepetal for automated defect detection.
