Omron / Sentech Sentech STC-SPB245CPCL / STC-SPC245CPCL (24.5MP Camera Link)
STC-SPB245CPCL
The STC-SPB245CPCL/STC-SPC245CPCL is an OMRON Sentech area scan camera using a 24.5-megapixel (5320 x 4600 px) Sony IMX540 1.2-inch global shutter CMOS sensor with 2.74 µm pixels, delivering 22 fps at full resolution. It connects over a Camera Link interface supporting 80bit / Full / Medium / Base configurations and uses a C-mount lens interface. The compact 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm aluminium-housed body is offered as the STC-SPB245CPCL (monochrome) and STC-SPC245CPCL (color) for high-resolution machine vision and inspection.
The Omron Sentech STC-SPB245CPCL (monochrome) and STC-SPC245CPCL (color) are area-scan cameras built around the Sony IMX540, a 1.2-inch global-shutter CMOS sensor from the Pregius S generation. At 5320 x 4600 px it delivers 24.5 MP with a 2.74 um square pixel pitch, putting it firmly in the high-resolution class. The global shutter is the defining trait for an installer: every pixel is exposed simultaneously, so fast-moving parts on a conveyor or an indexing stage are captured without the skew or smear a rolling shutter would introduce. That makes this camera suited to demanding tasks where both fine detail and motion fidelity matter at the same time, such as flat-panel and PCB inspection, large-area surface scanning, and dimensional gauging across a wide field of view.
The interface is Camera Link, configurable across 80bit / Full / Medium / Base modes. Camera Link is a deterministic, low-latency parallel link, which is exactly why it is paired with a sensor of this pixel count: at full 24.5 MP the camera runs 22 fps, and the higher Camera Link configurations (Full/80bit) are what provide the bandwidth to sustain that frame rate. Practically, this means an installer must budget for a Camera Link frame grabber and the dedicated MDR/SDR cabling Camera Link uses, rather than a plug-and-play USB or networked connection. The trade-off is rock-steady timing that integrates cleanly with hardware triggering and strobed lighting, which is essential for repeatable inspection cycles.
Optically, the camera uses a C-mount and the 1.2-inch optical format. The large sensor combined with the small 2.74 um pixels demands a lens that both covers a 1.2-inch image circle and resolves to the pixel scale, so high-resolution C-mount optics rated for large-format, high-megapixel sensors are required to avoid throwing away the sensor's detail. The body is compact and rugged at 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm in a black aluminium housing, which eases mounting in tight gantries and multi-camera arrays. The choice between the SPB (mono) and SPC (color) versions follows the standard rule: mono maximizes sensitivity and per-pixel sharpness for measurement and defect detection, while color is selected only when chromatic information is part of the inspection task.
Best for
High-resolution surface and defect inspection of large parts such as flat panels, glass, and PCBs where the 24.5 MP frame covers a wide area in a single capture
Dimensional measurement and gauging that needs many pixels across the field of view to hold tight tolerances
Imaging fast-moving or indexed parts on conveyors where the global shutter prevents motion distortion
Industrial OCR/OCV and print verification on packaging where fine character detail must be resolved cleanly
Multi-camera or gantry inspection cells where the compact 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm aluminium body and deterministic Camera Link timing suit synchronized arrays
Selection notes
Plan for the Camera Link infrastructure: this camera requires a matching frame grabber and Camera Link cabling, and sustaining 22 fps at full 24.5 MP relies on the Full/80bit configuration rather than Base or Medium
Specify a C-mount lens that covers the 1.2-inch optical format and resolves the 2.74 um pixel pitch, otherwise the system will not realize the sensor's full resolution
Choose between mono (STC-SPB245CPCL) and color (STC-SPC245CPCL) by task: mono for maximum sensitivity and sharpness in measurement and defect detection, color only when chromatic data is needed
Exploit the global shutter by hardware-triggering exposure and pairing it with strobed lighting, which keeps motion crisp and inspection cycles repeatable
Compute field of view and working distance from the 5320 x 4600 px array and 2.74 um pixel size against your smallest feature to confirm the camera delivers the spatial resolution the application needs

These steps take an Omron Sentech (STC) camera from the box to a stable first image and on to your own application. They apply across the GigE Vision, USB3 Vision and CoaXPress STC families; the interface only changes how you cable and power the camera.
Download and install the Sentech SDK on the host PC. The package provides StViewer, the viewing and configuration software you use to bring the camera up, and StApi, the programming SDK you integrate later. Because the cameras are GenICam/GenTL-compliant, StApi also registers a GenTL producer, so any GenICam-compliant third-party vision software can discover and drive the camera as an alternative front end.
2. Cable, power and connect the camera
Connect according to the interface. GigE Vision: link to a Gigabit NIC (use PoE or the separate power input) and put the camera and host on the same subnet; for USB3 Vision use a USB 3.x port and a certified cable; for CoaXPress (STC) connect to a CoaXPress frame grabber, which also supplies Power-over-Coax. Then open StViewer and let it enumerate the camera. If a GigE camera does not appear, check the IP configuration and firewall, and on USB3 confirm the host bandwidth and driver.
3. Configure exposure, gain and white balance
Open the device in StViewer and start a live stream. Set exposure and gain for a well-exposed, low-noise image: raise exposure first and only add gain when more light or a faster shutter is not an option, keeping exposure short enough to freeze motion on global-shutter models. On colour cameras, run white balance under your actual production lighting. Adjust the lens aperture and focus on a representative target before tuning anything else.
4. Set the trigger and grab a first image
Start in free-run (continuous) acquisition to confirm a clean, stable image. For inline inspection switch to hardware or software triggering: select the trigger source, set the active edge and any delay, and wire the strobe or illumination to the camera's I/O so lighting fires with each exposure. Acquire and save a frame in StViewer; this saved image is your reference for the SDK stage and for downstream inspection.
5. Move to the StApi SDK (or any GenICam software)
Once the image is stable, reproduce the same settings in code. Use StApi to open the device, apply the GenICam features you validated in StViewer (exposure, gain, trigger, pixel format) and grab frames into your application via the bundled C++, C, C#/.NET or Python interfaces; the included samples are the fastest starting point. Prefer a different stack? The same GenICam/GenTL camera works with third-party vision libraries. With a reliable feed, you can route it into a deep-learning inspection such as Rosepetal for AI-based defect detection.
