GigE Vision area scan camera with 1280 x 1024 (1.3 MP) resolution, 1/2" global shutter CMOS sensor and 75 fps. C-mount, Power over Ethernet or 12-24 VDC, with on-camera trigger and strobe I/O. Part of the Datasensing E100 Series.
The Datasensing E151 (CAM-E151-GE) is a 1.3 MP monochrome area scan camera built around a 1/2-inch global shutter sensor with a horizontal resolution of 1280 pixels and a pixel size of 4.8 um. As an area scan device, it captures a full two-dimensional frame in a single exposure, making it suited to inspecting discrete parts or fields of view rather than continuous web material. The global shutter is the defining characteristic for motion: every pixel starts and stops integrating at the same instant, so fast-moving objects are captured without the skew or smear that a rolling shutter introduces. Combined with a frame rate of up to 75 fps, this allows the camera to freeze parts on a moving line or indexing fixture while keeping geometry true.
Monochrome sensing concentrates all incident light into a single intensity channel rather than splitting it across a colour filter array, which typically yields higher effective sensitivity and sharper edge contrast for tasks that depend on geometry, texture and grey-level detail rather than colour discrimination. The 4.8 um pixel pitch on the 1/2-inch format gives a balance between resolution and light-gathering area that is well matched to general inspection work, and the C-mount interface accepts a wide range of standard industrial lenses for selecting the working distance and field of view a given application needs.
On the connectivity side, the camera uses a GigE Vision interface and is powered over Ethernet (PoE), so a single standard Ethernet cable can carry both image data and power, simplifying wiring and supporting longer cable runs than many short-reach interfaces. It conforms to the GigE Vision and GenICam standards, which means it presents a vendor-neutral programming and discovery model that most machine-vision software libraries can address directly. The camera is also listed as Rosepetal-ready, indicating it is intended to integrate cleanly into that vision software environment.
Best for
AI-based surface and defect inspection of discrete parts where consistent grey-level detail matters
Industrial OCR and OCV reading of codes, characters and date markings on components or packaging
Packaging inspection tasks such as verifying labels, seals, fill levels and print presence
Inspecting parts in motion on conveyors or indexing tables, where the global shutter prevents distortion
PoE-powered inspection stations where single-cable wiring and longer Ethernet runs simplify installation
Selection notes
Select a C-mount lens whose image circle covers the 1/2-inch sensor format; pairing the 4.8 um pixel pitch with an appropriately resolving lens ensures the optics do not become the limiting factor for fine-detail tasks like OCR.
For monochrome inspection, choose lighting wavelength and geometry to maximise the contrast of the feature of interest; structured, diffuse or backlit illumination often outperforms simply adding more light, and monochrome sensors can exploit specific wavelengths effectively.
Plan the network path for GigE Vision and PoE: use a PoE-capable switch or NIC, good-quality Ethernet cabling within the standard length limits, and ensure the host can sustain the bandwidth of 75 fps streaming, ideally on a dedicated or properly configured network interface.
Confirm software compatibility through the GigE Vision and GenICam standards, which let most machine-vision libraries discover and control the camera with a vendor-neutral model.
If the application requires colour discrimination, much higher resolution than 1.3 MP, or frame rates beyond what 75 fps and the GigE interface provide, consider a different model or interface.

Applications this camera is commonly selected for. Open one to see the full recommended hardware and approach.
1. Install the IMPACT Software Suite and connect the camera
Install the IMPACT Software Suite on your PC, which provides both the configuration/viewer tools and the SDK. For a GigE Vision model (E100, M or U series), connect it to a dedicated NIC and, for USB3 models, use a certified USB3 cable and port. Power the camera and confirm it enumerates.
2. Bring the camera online and verify the link
For GigE Vision, put the camera and the host NIC on the same subnet (a static IP on the camera matching the NIC range is the most reliable starting point); for USB3, confirm the device is recognized. Open the IMPACT viewer/device tool, discover the camera, and verify a stable connection before streaming. Enabling jumbo frames on the NIC helps GigE throughput.
3. Set exposure, gain and trigger, then grab a first image
In the IMPACT tools, start a live stream and adjust exposure and gain until the image is well-lit without saturation; set white balance on color models. Begin in free-run (continuous) mode to confirm imaging, then switch to hardware or software trigger as your application requires. Capture and save a reference image once the scene looks correct.
4. Build a vision tool or move to the SDK/API
Use the IMPACT point-and-click vision tools to assemble an inspection, or use the IMPACT SDK to access the camera and results programmatically and feed them into your HMI/PLC application. As these are GenICam/GenTL-compliant devices, you can alternatively drive them from any GenICam-compliant third-party vision library if your pipeline standardizes on one.
5. Route the stable feed to deep-learning inspection (optional)
Once you have a stable, repeatable image, the feed can be sent to a deep-learning inspection platform such as Rosepetal for defect detection or classification tasks that go beyond rule-based tooling. Keep lighting, optics and trigger timing fixed so the images reaching the model stay consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. The E151 uses a 1/2-inch global shutter sensor, so all pixels are exposed simultaneously. This captures moving parts without the geometric skew or smear typical of rolling shutters, which is important for inspecting objects on conveyors or indexing fixtures.
It is a GigE Vision camera that uses standard Ethernet cabling and supports Power over Ethernet (PoE). A single Ethernet cable can therefore carry both image data and power, which simplifies wiring and allows longer cable runs than many short-reach interfaces.
It is a monochrome camera with 1.3 MP resolution and a horizontal resolution of 1280 pixels. Monochrome sensing favours geometry, texture and grey-level contrast over colour discrimination, which suits defect inspection and OCR/OCV work.
The camera has a C-mount, so it accepts standard C-mount industrial lenses sized for the 1/2-inch sensor format. It runs at up to 75 fps, fast enough to inspect parts in motion when the lens, lighting and exposure are set appropriately.
Yes. It conforms to the GigE Vision and GenICam standards, so it can be discovered and controlled through most standard machine-vision software libraries, and it is listed as Rosepetal-ready for integration into that environment.
