Omron / Sentech Sentech STC-SPB881PCL / STC-SPC881PCL (8.9MP Camera Link)
STC-SPB881PCL
The STC-SPB881PCL (mono) and STC-SPC881PCL (color) are C-mount area-scan cameras from Omron Sentech using the 1-inch Sony IMX267 global-shutter CMOS sensor with 3.45 µm square pixels and 4096 x 2160 effective resolution (8.9MP). They deliver up to 20.6 fps over a Camera Link Base (Camera Link 2.1) interface and are powered via PoCL or external +12 Vdc with under 2.8 W consumption. Pixel formats are Mono8/10/12 on the mono model and the corresponding Bayer formats on the color model, with features including ROI scanning, edge/pulse-width trigger and free-run modes, programmable gamma, gain control, binning and defective-pixel correction. The compact 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm housing weighs roughly 69 g and operates from 0 to +45 °C.

Monochrome (STC-SPB881PCL) / Color (STC-SPC881PCL)
The Omron Sentech STC-SPB881PCL (monochrome) and STC-SPC881PCL (color) are C-mount area-scan cameras built around the 1-inch Sony IMX267 global-shutter CMOS sensor, a member of the Sony Pregius family. The sensor presents 4096 x 2160 effective pixels (8.9 MP) on a 14.1 x 7.5 mm imaging area with 3.45 um square pixels, and the global shutter exposes every pixel simultaneously. For an installer, that combination is the headline: at 8.9 MP you have enough pixel density to resolve fine surface defects, small printed characters and dimensional features across a wide 4096 x 2160 frame, while the global shutter freezes moving parts and indexed product without the skew or smear a rolling shutter introduces. That makes the camera a natural fit for conveyor, web and indexed-station inspection where the target is moving relative to the camera.
On the data side this is a Camera Link Base camera running the Camera Link 2.1 specification, delivering up to 20.6 fps at full 4096 x 2160 resolution. Camera Link gives you a deterministic, low-jitter link with hardware triggering, which is why the camera supports edge and pulse-width trigger modes alongside free-run; you wire it to a frame grabber and gate exposure precisely to an encoder or photo-eye. ROI scanning lets you trade off field for frame rate when you only need a band of the sensor, and the camera offers programmable gamma, gain control, binning and defective-pixel correction for tuning image response before it leaves the head. The monochrome STC-SPB881PCL outputs Mono8/10/12, while the color STC-SPC881PCL outputs the corresponding Bayer formats, so you choose between maximum sensitivity and contrast for grayscale measurement versus color discrimination at the same resolution and optics.
Physically the camera is built for tight integration. The housing is a compact 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm block weighing roughly 69 g, with a C-mount that accepts standard 1-inch-format machine-vision lenses. Power is flexible: it runs on PoCL (Power over Camera Link) so a single cable carries data and power, or on external +12 Vdc, and it draws under 2.8 W, which keeps self-heating and cabinet load low. The operating range is 0 to +45 C, so it is suited to controlled factory and lab environments rather than uncooled outdoor or high-ambient stations. For an installer the design-in is straightforward: a 1-inch C-mount lens, a Camera Link Base frame grabber with PoCL, and an external light source triggered in step with the camera's exposure via its edge or pulse-width trigger input.
Best for
High-resolution surface and defect inspection on moving web or conveyor lines, where the 8.9 MP global-shutter sensor freezes motion without smear
OCR/OCV reading of small printed codes, date marks and characters that need the 4096 x 2160 pixel density across a wide frame
Dimensional measurement and gauging on indexed stations, using the monochrome variant's Mono8/10/12 output for clean edge contrast
Packaging and print inspection where color discrimination matters, using the color STC-SPC881PCL Bayer variant at the same resolution
Space-constrained multi-camera cells that benefit from the compact 35 x 35 x 40.7 mm, ~69 g housing and single-cable PoCL power
Selection notes
Choose the variant at design time: STC-SPB881PCL (mono) maximizes sensitivity and contrast for grayscale measurement and defect work, while STC-SPC881PCL (color) adds Bayer color discrimination at the same 8.9 MP resolution and optics.
This is a Camera Link Base camera, so you must budget for a Camera Link 2.1 frame grabber and a compatible cable; if it is a PoCL grabber you get power and data on one cable, otherwise plan for external +12 Vdc.
Specify a 1-inch-format C-mount lens that covers the 14.1 x 7.5 mm sensor; an undersized lens will vignette the corners of the 4096 x 2160 frame, and the 3.45 um pixels demand a lens with enough resolving power.
Frame rate is capped at 20.6 fps at full resolution; if your line speed needs more throughput, plan to use ROI scanning to read a narrower band of the sensor and raise the effective rate.
Confirm the thermal environment: the 0 to +45 C operating range and under-2.8 W draw suit controlled factory cabinets, not high-ambient or uncooled outdoor stations, and the global shutter plus edge/pulse-width trigger modes mean you should plan lighting synchronized to the triggered exposure.

These steps take an Omron Sentech (STC) camera from the box to a stable first image and on to your own application. They apply across the GigE Vision, USB3 Vision and CoaXPress STC families; the interface only changes how you cable and power the camera.
Download and install the Sentech SDK on the host PC. The package provides StViewer, the viewing and configuration software you use to bring the camera up, and StApi, the programming SDK you integrate later. Because the cameras are GenICam/GenTL-compliant, StApi also registers a GenTL producer, so any GenICam-compliant third-party vision software can discover and drive the camera as an alternative front end.
2. Cable, power and connect the camera
Connect according to the interface. GigE Vision: link to a Gigabit NIC (use PoE or the separate power input) and put the camera and host on the same subnet; for USB3 Vision use a USB 3.x port and a certified cable; for CoaXPress (STC) connect to a CoaXPress frame grabber, which also supplies Power-over-Coax. Then open StViewer and let it enumerate the camera. If a GigE camera does not appear, check the IP configuration and firewall, and on USB3 confirm the host bandwidth and driver.
3. Configure exposure, gain and white balance
Open the device in StViewer and start a live stream. Set exposure and gain for a well-exposed, low-noise image: raise exposure first and only add gain when more light or a faster shutter is not an option, keeping exposure short enough to freeze motion on global-shutter models. On colour cameras, run white balance under your actual production lighting. Adjust the lens aperture and focus on a representative target before tuning anything else.
4. Set the trigger and grab a first image
Start in free-run (continuous) acquisition to confirm a clean, stable image. For inline inspection switch to hardware or software triggering: select the trigger source, set the active edge and any delay, and wire the strobe or illumination to the camera's I/O so lighting fires with each exposure. Acquire and save a frame in StViewer; this saved image is your reference for the SDK stage and for downstream inspection.
5. Move to the StApi SDK (or any GenICam software)
Once the image is stable, reproduce the same settings in code. Use StApi to open the device, apply the GenICam features you validated in StViewer (exposure, gain, trigger, pixel format) and grab frames into your application via the bundled C++, C, C#/.NET or Python interfaces; the included samples are the fastest starting point. Prefer a different stack? The same GenICam/GenTL camera works with third-party vision libraries. With a reliable feed, you can route it into a deep-learning inspection such as Rosepetal for AI-based defect detection.
